Residence card for EU citizens
Since Spain has become a member of the European Union, there are two different
procedures to be followed for acquiring a resident permit, depending on the
nationality of the person seeking residence. The "Régimen Comunitario
Europeo" is for the E.U. citizens, while the "Régimen General" is
for non-E.U. citizens.
This card is compulsory when you remain in Spain
for a period longer than 183 days a year and you do not work; but if the
case may be that you do work your residence card is not imperative but
we do consider it is advisable (easier to operate with Spanish banks, to apply
for grants, medical cover / National Insurance, convenient point tax wise,
with regards to the Capital Gains Tax and the 5% retention should you sell
your property in Spain in the future, ….)
